Work in Progress: Granny Square Blanket, The Beginning

Well, I started. Again. A granny square blanket.. Do you think I can do it? I hope so! As of right now, I have 12 completed squares and six half completed squares. So, uh.. only about 160+ left plus construction. BUT. Come on. I can do it, riiiiight?

Good thing I finished this gigantic bag, huh? I bought two skeins each of six colors (so far), plus two skeins of my border color, and it fits all 14 of those with probably room for 14 more. I'm glad to have the bag to hold all of that plus the finished motifs.

A stack of finished squares. I haven't blocked these yet.. Not looking forward to it. I'm thinking of buying one of those clear, big rectangle ruler things, so I can make sure they are exactly 4" by 4" each.

I am definitely happy with the blue I chose for the border color. I cannot WAIT to see what they look like when I get 50, 100, and more. They are so fun and quick to make, the only thing that is getting me is weaving in the ends. Have you crocheted a blankie? What were your dimensions? I want it to be larger than a throw, but we'll see how many squares I can bust out in the next few months.

    1. At the end of the night, I was up to 30 squares! If only I could have a week off of work to just work on this ;)

  3. Currently making a granny square rug (I can't wait! It's going to be the Mario Mushroom!), but I'm taking my sweet time. Granny squares are easy, but I hate tying in a bunch of ends, too. And, the repetition gets bothersome for me at times as well (I just make sure to take advantage of the times when I'm in a mood to do something mindless and repetitive)

My project is going to end up being about 5' x 5', with a total of 256 squares. I've already done about 80, but I still have 170 or so to do :< I guess we're both in for a long haul. Good luck to you!

    1. I'm too working on a new granny square blanket for my baby neice. It's not going to be too big and I've nearly finished the basic shape but I'm adding extra flowers and animals on the top which I have not quite worked out yet.
Loving the dark blue you ahve used and I must say I'm going to steal you basket/bag holder for yarn!

    2. Thanks! If I got too bored of it, I could also turn the squares into a bag or a little rug or baby blanket. :)

  5. Oh man, you have determination. I get too anxious for the finished product, so I stick to smaller plans.

  7. Yay for granny square blankets! I started one with mostly reds, pinks, and yellows like two years ago and it's still hibernating in my closet! FAIL! hahaha...that's OK though, I'll finish it one day. I'm really bad, though, I started another blanket and bought a bunch of yarn for a third. Boo on crafting ADD!
